The Davenport Digest is a newsletter from the YouTube creator Nathan Davenport. This newsletter explores the intersections of cities, urban planning, technology, politics, and more.
The channel originally began in Atlanta, Georgia, doing "citizen journalism" on local urbanism news, including transportation, car dependency, land use, and the history behind these practices. Over time, this has expanded into other topics, and this newsletter serves as an email list for this work.
About Nathan
I'm Nathan Davenport, a professional software engineer, and self proclaimed video-journalist and photographer in Atlanta, Georgia.
My first passion is programming. Ever since I was really little, I was building computers, jailbreaking iPod Touches, and sort of learning programming languages from primitive 2006 YouTube videos. I ended up going to college at Georgia Tech for Computational Media, and I now work professionally as a Software Engineer II at NCR Voyix, doing backend work in Typescript, Kubernetes, and other technologies for a SaaS self-checkout solution.
However, I have other passions as well. I grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, Cobb County specifically, but have always been obsessed with cities. I put thousands of hours into Sim City 4 as a kid, and probably about the same amount into Cities Skylines as an adult!
I just find urban studies really interesting, which is why I made a YouTube channel where I deep dive into local urbanism, including land use, transportation, real-estate, and more. I've also begun branching out, and covering some other topics outside of urbanism, and I'm excited to see where the channel goes next!

This Substack has several sections to control what e-mails you receive.. Head to nathandaven.substack.com/account to enable or disable e-mails for what you care about:
Two sections for now! By default, you’ll be subscribed to all. Sections are weird, but that root “Davenport Digest” one I think won’t send you any e-mails. Below are the current active sections:
“Announcements” is a blast for new videos and projects.
“Musings” is a catchall for other various write-ups I may or may not write.
